Cymry

“Winter’s Wall”

“Oh, the Cymryns ain’t so bad once y’ get to know ‘em.
Swarthy lads an’ lasses. They like a good drink, maybe a
fight, nothin’ wrong with that. It’s their priests, now,
these druids… Them, they scare me.”
Cutter Last, Captain of Infinitum

Cymry, known by many as the Timberlands, stands as one of the northernmost nations. It is wide and wooded, with massive leagues of rolling, fir-blanketed, imposing terrain. The towering Stagged Mounts loom over all to the north—the most natural (and most effective) bar to Nordr raids. Cymry is known for its fierce defense of Nordr invasions from the north, and its stubborn homage to the old gods of Gaultic faith, the Deith Diadh.

Cymry is larger than life in all things, boasting the largest beasts to hunt, the largest barrels of mead to drink from, and has a deserved reputation as a land of people who reject the concept of moderation. Words spoken in the Cymwyrn old tongue tend to roll and growl, and are said to be best heard from shouting throats. Despite its fearsome repute, Cymry is a fast friend to both Palador and Danthrane, retains a good relationship with Vertaes, and is even rumored to have maintained contact with the hidden elven kingdoms of Caldan’onae and Sindathlar.

Cymry is a rival to Gault, its eastern neighbor, though (aside from occasional border raids), relations have been pretty much peaceful. The only people the Cymryn truly despise are the Nordr, who they happily hunt and kill with abandon.

Locale: Northeast, sprawling against the Stagged Mounts; borders Danthrane (west), Vertaes (south), and Gault (east), as well as the high-elven nation of Caldan’onae (north, though those paths remain secreted)

Role: The first and last line of defense against invasion from the north. Crowned human monarchy, though being a former homeland of the fae, it still remains to be seen who rules who. Some myths never die.

Theme: Celtic nation of bastards and braggarts, all too willing to back up bold words with bold deeds. Got a tall tale? They’ll top it! Got an impossible task? Nothing is impossible! Irish myth is alive and well here, and toss some Goscinny and Uderzo Hyborean hyperbole on top of that bonfire.

Talamnh Nog:
Also called Talarn Ogh, meaning “Land of Youth”, this Cymryn territory has a somewhat misunderstood name, for it predates Cymry and in fact predates most of mankind’s presence on Southern Caelarn. Closer to say that Talamnh Nog became Cymry, but in this era it is merely considered an older, smaller portion of the kingdom as a whole. That said, Talamnh Nog retains a surprising amount of magic; unique phenomenon occur in this portion of Crown’s Reach that do not occur in most areas.
