Baal-Mazar

Baal’s Tomb. An entire nation is named for it. They call these the dead lands, and it may be so, but the people who remain within are thriving.

Addu: (Sumerian roots, named for one of Baal’s many names) This odd little city is called “a ruby trapped in slate,” for it is the source of many mechanical and clockwork wonders, yet resides somehow peacefully within grim Baal-Mazar. Merchants who dare the land to seek the wonders within are rewarded with profitable venture, it is said, though it also said not many dare make the dangerous journey in the first place.
Mardesh: This city is named for Marduk, an older name for Baal, and currently stands as Baal-Mazar’s grim capital.
Akhad: Legend says the city as a whole simply appeared one day, thousands of years ago (around 2,000 BC, in fact), walls, people, livestock, all of it. It’s now a deserted ghost city, and the mystery of why is as closely-kept a secret as to the truth behind its arrival.
Gudai: Mountain tribes formed into a mountain nation that exacts a passage toll on whomever wishes to pass their lands. (Of likely Sumerian origin; formerly the Guti, raiders of Agade.)
